CPAKL Toastmasters meeting - 7th July 2009

The attendance for last night meeting was 5 members :)

It was a short meeting, but we’re able to listen to 2 speeches.

The first speech was delivered by Khai Yin for Project #5 - Your Body Speaks.
The project #5 speech title was Why Facebook sucks?

The speech was actually about why Selling and Marketing in Facebook sucks and not why facebook sucks as a social website.

Khai Yin had good points and contents in his speech. I was the evaluator and the speech met a few of the objectives of project 5. But the topic itself does not help much on expressing body language. Will be looking forward to Khai Yin’s next speech.

Second speaker of the day was a surprise as Juliet also known as my girlfriend :) agreed to give her ice breaker speech.

The content of her speech was structured to her family, career and hobbies.
George was her evaluator. He commended her for her courage to deliver her first speech in such a short notice.

After both evaluation of the speaker was done, Chi Min came up with his own evaluation as the night was still young. Chi Min’s own evaluation on Khai Yin was to recommend Khai Yin to exert more confidence in his body language.

For Juliet, Chi Min recommended her to use more transitions. I hope I remembered Chi Min’s evaluation correctly though.

Congratulations to Juliet on her first speech. A standing ovation was given to her on delivering her first speech from the Competent Communicator manual. Khai Yin is halfway to earning his competent communicator title.

That was the meeting for the night. There were no table topics as yours truly did not prepare any topic and also no theme for the evening. The only other roleplayer was timekeeper which was handled by Chi Min.

The meeting ended around 8 something which was earlier than our usual meeting which ends around 9:30-9:45.

I became motivated to do my advance speeches :). I guess I need to think of a few topics for my advance speeches.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Mini Review

Just watched Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs or also known as Ice Age 3 last night at GSC 1 Utama.

I went to watch the 3D version of the movie. But the 3D version doesn’t really add any great effects to the movie.
There’s nothing popping out of the screen where you feel like you can touch it. There are no 3D objects that feels gonna hit you right at your face.

The 3D version is nothing to shout about. I prefer Monsters vs. Aliens because they made good use of their 3D effects.

As for the story, I say it’s not really that great. It’s funny on certain parts but the story on a whole quite normal. Family life, kids & life changes are part of the story.

There were still a lot of people trying to get tickets for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at GSC 1 Utama last night though.
